Results of the call for projects 2021 Ambition, Talent and Emergence Programmes

CY Initiative will support 20 research projects for a total amount of €2M, under the 2021 call for scientific projects aiming to financially support proposals that contribute to the development of scientific excellence, and to increase the attractiveness and international visibility. Launched last October, 44 projects were submitted by researchers and laboratories of the CY Initiative composed of CY Cergy Paris University and ESSEC Business school.

This fifth call for proposals, launched in favour of the development of research, aims to give researchers and laboratories the means for an ambitious scientific strategy to increase their attractiveness and impact through three programmes: AMBITION, TALENT, and EMERGENCE.

On the recommendation of the evaluation committee of the call for proposals, the executive board of the CY Initiative decided, on 17 May 2021, to support 20 research projects (4 AMBITION projects, 2 TALENTS projects and 14 EMERGENCE projects) for a total amount of 2 M€. These projects cover all the scientific fields of the Initiative of Excellence: humanities and social sciences, experimental sciences, mathematics, economics, management, finance, theoretical physics, computer science.

The AMBITION programme is aimed at supporting, for a period of 4 years, ambitious research programmes led by a CY Initiative research team and which will have a significant leverage effect on the scientific dynamics, the impact and the visibility of the leading team.

The TALENT programme supports the recruitment of high potential young researchers wishing to develop their research in one of the CY Initiative research teams. It offers an attractive remuneration and working environment for a period of 3 years to researchers with between 2 and 10 years of postdoctoral experience

The EMERGENCE programme supports the development of promising research projects in order to advance research work, with a view to preparing an application for external financial support at national or European level.
The projects supported will also contribute to the development of international scientific collaborations with CY Initiative's privileged partners.

The Call for Proposals 2021 was complemented by two other programmes to support the internationalisation of research: the Fellows-in-Residence programme, which allows the hosting of high-level international and national researchers within the CY Advanced Studies Institute; and the EUTOPIA PhD co-tutelle programme, which aims to strengthen doctoral training in collaboration with our partners in the EUTOPIA alliance.

The evaluation process

All of the supported projects were subject to an evaluation involving over 70 external experts. Each project was evaluated in two stages:
- individual assessment of the projects by two experts
- evaluation of all the projects and ranking by the evaluation committee.
The evaluation committee, chaired by Arnaud Lefranc - coordinator of the call for proposals - and composed of 7 internal CY Initiative members and 7 external members, formulated its funding proposals to the CY Initiative of Excellence Executive Board on 17 May 2021.
